Welcome to Part 2 of our Monthly Home Makeover Series: Dom’s Room Refresh! After tackling Olive’s room, we’re now diving into Dom’s nature-inspired bedroom. While Olive’s space is full of magic, Dom’s room embraces the outdoors with a calming, nature-driven vibe. It’s all about creating a cozy and functional space that reflects his love for the outdoors while keeping everything organized. Keep reading to see how we transformed Dom’s room with thoughtful updates and clever storage solutions!
Dom’s Room Refresh
Refreshing a child’s room doesn’t always require a complete overhaul. We already know small changes can make all the difference! In Part 2 of our series, we’re updating Dom’s rainforest-inspired space to reflect his love for nature while adding functional storage and cozy touches. Here are some of the Key Updates:
1. The Perfect Duvet for Dom’s Room Refresh

We stumbled across this nature-inspired duvet cover set from Temu. Again, we’re usually cautious about ordering bedding online since you never quite know what you’ll get. However, after the success of Olive’s duvet, we were drawn to the print and quality of this one. It’s the perfect match for Dom’s rainforest-themed room, and just like Olive’s, we loved that it’s a duvet cover and not a comforter set. It’s much easier to wash! We were pleasantly surprised by how well it’s made, and Dom loves the design. Click here to get the same look.
2. DIY Hanging Wall Art Decor

Wall art can completely transform a room, and for Dom, we wanted something that felt both personal and stylish. We used a landscape photo and printed it on canvas following our DIY Hanging Wall Art Decor tutorial. These stunning scroll-style wall hangings complement the room’s adventurous theme while adding a touch of warmth and nostalgia.
3. DIY Mod Podge Photo Plaques

To make Dom’s space even more personal, we created custom photo plaques using snapshots from our family trips to Vancouver, St. Augustine, and West Palm Beach. Using matte Mod Podge, we transferred these images onto wooden plaques, creating unique wall decor with a handmade touch. This easy DIY Mod Podge Photo Plaque project adds a sentimental and artistic feel to his room.
4. DIY Hexagon Wall Shelves

Storage and organization were a big focus in this refresh, so we added these DIY Hexagon Wall Shelves to display Dom’s small collectibles and favorite decor pieces. These shelves not only provide practical storage but also serve as statement pieces on his walls. While they aren’t large enough for books, they’re perfect for showcasing small items that bring personality to his space.
5. DIY Personalized Wall Letters

Using our DIY Personalized Wall Letters tutorial, we took personal landscape photos from our trip to Vancouver and printed them on our favorite Inkjet Printable Matte Adhesive Vinyl to create custom wall letters. These personalized pieces add a unique and artistic touch to Dom’s walls, making his space feel even more special.
6. Closet Storage Solutions
To keep Dom’s room clutter-free, we made the most of his closet space by using IKEA Trofast storage bins and placing his dresser inside. This setup keeps his everyday essentials organized while freeing up valuable space in his room. This allows him more room to play and relax. Thankfully, our home has spacious closets, which made this an easy and practical solution!
When it comes to toy storage, managing all the different themes and tiny pieces can feel like an uphill battle. That’s why we love that most of Dom’s toys are neatly tucked away behind his closet doors. Out of sight, but still easy for him to access. This is about as organized as it gets for him!
Just like in Olive’s room, we wanted to showcase Dom’s LEGO masterpieces in a way that keeps them safe. The IKEA Fabrikor Storage Display Case was the perfect find! It gives his creations a sleek, museum-style home while the locking door ensures his builds stay intact, no accidental crashes here.
Why This Refresh Was Needed:
Dom’s room underwent a full makeover last year, which included his house frame bed and Sherwin Williams, Isle of Pine newly painted walls. However, as he’s grown, his needs have shifted. This year’s focus was more about adding decor that matches his theme while also creating functional storage solutions to help him stay organized. Just like Olive’s refresh, Dom’s update was about enhancing what he already had while tailoring it to his unique style.

– Use What You Already Have: Instead of replacing all furniture, consider refreshing existing pieces with spray paint or new hardware for an updated look.
– Optimize Wall Space: Adding floating shelves, hanging organizers, peg-boards or wall-mounted storage helps free up floor space while keeping things organized.
– DIY Decor Saves Money: Personalized wall art and DIY projects, like our Mod Podge Photo Plaques and Hanging Wall Art, add a custom touch without the high price tag.
– Utilize Smart Storage Solutions: Storage bins, under-bed storage, and multifunctional furniture help keep clutter at bay while making the room more functional.
