Creating a personalized and cohesive design for Dom’s nature-themed bedroom was such a fun project, and one of the highlights was this unique DIY hexagon wall shelves installation. It added texture, color, and functionality to the space, while staying on theme with its geometric, nature-inspired vibe. Here’s how you can create your own DIY hexagon wall shelves for any room!

Materials You'll Need:

– Wooden Hexagon Floating Shelves with Backs: 2 sets of 7 unfinished shelves by Woodpeckers. (Available here on Amazon.)

– Paints: FolkArt Acrylic Paint in Metallic Gold, White, Black, and Rustic Orange. (Purchased at Hobby Lobby.)

– Adhesives: 3M Command Strips for a damage-free installation. (Available here on Amazon.)

– Faux Plants:

* Artificial Hanging Plants for Shelf: 4-pack of faux greenery – Eucalyptus Vine, Mandala Vine, String of Pearls, Pea Pod Leaves. (Available here on Amazon.)

* Tropical Plant Leaves: 60 pieces of artificial palm leaves, monstera leaves, safari leaves for lush wall accents. (Available here on Amazon.)

*Artificial Vines: 12 pack of 84 ft of hanging ivy vines. (Available here on Amazon.)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 2 Paint the Shelves

Step 1: Plan & Paint Your Shelves

Before you start, plan the arrangement of the hexagon shelves on the wall. I found it helpful to use my dining table as a workspace to lay everything out and visualize the final look. For Dom’s room, I aimed for a honeycomb-inspired design that would complement the greenery.

Once you’re happy with the layout, it’s time to paint! I used FolkArt Acrylic Paint in metallic gold, white, black, and rustic orange for a warm, earthy vibe. Apply 2-3 coats for full coverage, letting each layer dry completely.

Pro Tip: Add extra flair with half-painted gold edges or mixed-color accents!

Step 3 Mount the Shelves

Step 2: Mount the Shelves

Using 3M Command Strips, adhere the shelves to the wall. These strips are perfect for lightweight installations, as they are strong but damage-free. Ensure the shelves are level and securely pressed onto the wall.

Step 4: Arrange Faux Greenery

Step 3: Attach Faux Greenery

Arrange the artificial plants around the shelves for a natural, cascading effect. Use the tropical leaves as a backdrop, layering them behind the shelves, and let hanging vines drape around and between the shelves.

Step 4: Style & Finalize

Once the shelves are installed, step back and adjust the plants as needed. You can also add small decorations or lightweight items to the shelves for added functionality. For Dom’s room, I kept it simple to let the colors and greenery shine.
