A Family Tradition Begins: Our First Nights of Lights in St. Augustine
In 2020, we found ourselves craving a holiday adventure that felt safe yet special, something close enough for a one-tank trip. With Covid making long-distance travel uncertain, venturing beyond Florida wasn’t in the cards. That’s when St. Augustine caught our eye.
It had been over a decade since I’d visited, and my husband and kids had never experienced its charm. We’d heard glowing reviews of the city’s Nights of Lights celebration, and the thought of strolling through the historic district, bathed in the glow of millions of twinkling white lights, felt like the perfect way to embrace the holiday spirit.
Our kids were especially excited and eager when they realized where we were going. Christmas lights have always held a special place in our family traditions. The idea of seeing an entire city transformed into a winter wonderland had them counting down the days.
From the moment we arrived, we were enchanted. The dazzling lights, quaint cobblestone streets, and layers of history created a one-of-a-kind holiday experience. What we thought would be a one-time trip turned into the start of a beloved family tradition. Each year since, we’ve returned to recapture that magic, and St. Augustine has firmly claimed its spot as one of our favorite holiday destinations.
